The Pelican Life Skills Teacher’s Guide Foundation Phase comprises three books from Grades 1 to 3. These books have been developed with the aim to assist teachers in teaching through activities, conducting assessment and assessing the achievement of the learning outcomes. Teachers need to use these books in conjunction with the Pelican Life Skills Learner’s Book. The Natural Sciences and Technology Teacher’s Guide has the following features: • The list of CAPS objectives: CAPS objectives from all the four study areas are tabulated in a weekly manner for each term. These are also listed at the beginning of each week. • Previous Knowledge: This section lists the previous knowledge of the learners at the beginning of each week. • Activities: Suitable activities are provided for teachers to achieve the learning objectives from all the four domains. The time duration and materials needed for each activity is also provided. • Informal Assessment: Informal assessment is given for each of the activities. It includes the parameters that will enable the teacher to track and monitor the learners’ progress. A table is also provided to mark the progress of the learners in Creative Arts and Physical Education. • Answer Key: Answers to the questions given in the chapters of the Learners’ Book are given at the end of each topic. • Formal Assessment: Formal assessment for Beginning Knowledge and Social and Personal Well-being is given for each term along with the answers. • Assessment: This section includes the rubrics to be filled for each learner for each term. • Digital Content: Teacher’s Guide is supported by digital content in the form of a DVD. The DVD contains E-book, lesson plans and answer keys.
